What better way to get through hump day than with a new album from Grouplove!?
Today Grouplove dropped their sophomore album entitled “Spreading Rumours” and it is certainly worth a look. I first saw Grouplove live in December of 2011 at 107.7 THE END’s Deck the Hall Ball concert in Seattle, and the amount of energy they managed to pump into the crowd with their addicting sound was really impressive. Nearly a year later, their single “Tongue Tied” hit the airwaves, and Grouplove made it big.
The great thing about “Spreading Rumours” is that Grouplove did not sell out and really managed to keep their sound without adopting “radio-proof” sound in an effort to get a huge hit again. But that’s not to say the album doesn’t have hit-worthy tracks!! While there are a few songs that seem to drag a little, others such as “Shark Attack”, “Raspberry”, and the previously released single “Ways to Go” really pick up the slack and showcase Grouplove’s unique somewhere-between-indie-rock-EDM-and-pop sound that makes them so attractive to me.
In short, “Spreading Rumours” stays true to the sound we heard in “Never Trust a Happy Song” while growing on that and proving Grouplove to be far more than just a one-hit wonder. I highly recommend giving it a listen!
